Adoption Introduction: A true story

Here's a list of requirements for adopting a child, some of which have been covered in the earlier pages.

For the child:

  • Child is unmarried
  • Child is under 21 years old
  • Child is a resident of Singapore

For the adoptive parent(s):

  • You must be at least 25 years of age
  • You must be at least 21 years older than the child
  • You must be a resident of Singapore
  • If you are a single man, you cannot adopt a female child
  • If adopted by a couple, you must be legally married
  • You must obtain consent from all parents of the child, orhave had such consent dispensed with by the court
  • You must pass the investigations made by the Ministry of Community Development
  • You must not have paid or received any money or reward for the adoption
