Court of Appeal
This court consists of the Chief Justice and the Judges of Appeal. The Chief Justice is the President of the Court of Appeal. If he is absent, the senior member of the Court presides. The Chief Justice is appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
Appeals are decided in accordance with the opinion of the majority of the judges comprising the Court of Appeal.
Civil Jurisdiction
The Court of Appeal hears and determines appeals from any judgement/order of the High Court in civil matters.
Criminal Jurisdiction
The Court of Appeal hears and determines any appeal against decisions made by the High Court. At the hearing of the appeal, the Court of Appeal can confirm, reverse or vary the decision of the High Court or order a retrial. There is no right of appeal to the Court of Appeal from a decision of any Subordinate Court in a criminal matter. Such a decision may only be appealed to the High Court.
