MAS Issues Consultation Paper on Draft Deposit Insurance Regulations

This consultation paper invites comments on the draft Deposit Insurance Regulations and Deposit Insurance (Composition of Offences) Regulations. Among other things, these Regulations set out details on (i) asset maintenance requirements; (ii) premium contributions payable by Scheme members; (iii) target size of the Deposit Insurance Fund and (iv) offences which may be compounded by MAS under the Act.
New Features In One Stop Business Portal

Starting from today, a new feature called the URT (which stands for Updating, Renewals and Terminations) modules is now available through the Online Business Licensing Service (OBLS) at www.business.gov.sg/licences . The URT modules allow businesses to update, renew or terminate 45 different types of licences through the OBLS. Previously, the OBLS only permitted businesses to apply for new licences.
Public Consultation on Workplace Safety and Health Regulations

The Ministry of Manpower ("MOM") has published draft regulations under the proposed Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Act slated to be passed by Parliament before the end of 2005. MOM is seeking public feedback on the proposed regulations.
IDA Approves Revisions to SingTel's Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO)

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) today has approved revisions to Singapore Telecommunications Limited's (SingTel) Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO). SingTel's RIO sets out IDA-approved prices, terms and conditions for interconnection and access to SingTel's network. The RIO provides the telecoms industry with a standard agreement to use when it wants to lease or connect1 to SingTel's network in order to provide its own services to the Singapore market.

The MAS has issued revised REIT Guidelines. A key change is the lifting of the borrowing limit to 60 percent from 35 percent, so long as the REIT obtains and discloses its credit rating.

In a press release, MAS advised financial institutions to update their list of individuals and entities belonging to or associated with the Taliban and the Al-Qaida organisation (the 1267 List) as required under the Monetary Authority of Singapore (Anti-Terrorism Measures) Regulations 2002.

Google stopped using the Gmail name in the United Kingdom on 19 October 2005, temporarily ending a trademark dispute. The Gmail service there is now known as Googlemail.
