Mr Lee announced that Singapore's economy grew by 9.4 percent in the first half of 2006. For the full year, MTI has raised our growth forecast to between 6.5 and 7.5 percent. Joint Consultation Paper on Unsecured Credit Rules

Currently, financial institutions granting unsecured credit facilities or issuing unsecured credit cards to individuals are required by MAS to abide by a set of unsecured credit rules [1]. These rules were put in place to implement the Government's social policy of discouraging individuals from spending beyond their means by curbing the easy access to credit through financial institutions.


Preservation Of Monuments Board Proposes Stronger Measures To Better Protect National Monuments

To better protect and preserve Singapore’s built heritage, the Preservation of Monuments Board (PMB) is proposing major amendments to the Preservation of Monuments Act – the first time since the Act was enacted in 1971. The amendments will enable the Board to deal more effectively with errant building owners and also allow it to institute stricter measures in the protection of Singapore’s 55 national monuments.

On 3 Jan 2005, MAS released for public consultation, a first draft of a revised MAS Notice to Banks No. 626 on Prevention of Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT). Since then, there have been substantial developments on the international front in the area of AML/CFT. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has begun its third round of mutual evaluation of FATF member countries. Taking into account the comments received during the Jan 2005 consultation and developments in the implementation of the FATF standards, MAS has been working on further refinements to the AML/CFT regime for the Singapore financial sector.
