Apple & Creative Announce Broad Settlement

Apple and Creative Technology today announced a settlement ending all legal disputes between the two companies. Apple will pay Creative US$100 million to use Creative's patent in all Apple products.

The Ministry of Manpower will introduce a Personalised Employment Pass (PEP) from 1 January 2007 to help us better attract and retain global talent. The PEP will facilitate selected Employment Pass holders to continue working in Singapore. The PEP will be granted to suitable EP holders or foreigners who have graduated from our institutions of higher learning, and have worked in Singapore for a period of time.

The Government has accepted the key recommendations of The Third Committee on the Supply of Lawyers chaired by the former Attorney-General Chan Sek Keong. The recommendations are aimed at increasing the number of lawyers in Singapore and to attract high calibre foreign lawyers to practice here. Following this, a new Committee has been appointed by DPM/Minister for Law, to be chaired by Justice V K Rajah to review comprehensively the legal services sector and to propose measures to enhance Singapore’s position as an international centre for the provision of legal services.

Mr Lee announced that Singapore's economy grew by 9.4 percent in the first half of 2006. For the full year, MTI has raised our growth forecast to between 6.5 and 7.5 percent. The Prime Minister also calls on Singaporeans to uphold the spirit of self reliance, openness to change and the determination to succeed as the nation builds a brighter future for all.
