MAS And MinLaw Issue Responses To Feedback On Proposed Changes To Unsecured Credit Rules

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) have jointly issued their responses to feedback received from a public consultation on the proposed changes to the unsecured credit rules and the proposed application of these rules to moneylenders. The joint public consultation was conducted from 7 August 2006 to 7 Sept 2006.
Singapore And Ukraine Sign Avoidance Of Double Taxation Agreement

Singapore signed her 61st Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income with Ukraine. Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Second Minister for Finance, signed on behalf of Singapore while Mr. Mykola Azarov, First Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, signed on behalf of Ukraine. The signing took place in conjunction with Mr. Azarov’s visit to Singapore.

Health Products Bill 2007 was introduced in Parliament on 22 Jan 2007. The Bill proposes that all health products be evaluated and entered into a central registry, under categories determined by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA).
Banking (Amendment) BIll 2006 Passed

Parliament on 22 January 2007 passed the Banking (Amendment) BIll 2006. The Bill was previously introduced on8 Nov 2006 after a consultation exercise in July 2006. The Bill is part of an on-going exercise by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to enhance the banking regulatory framework in Singapore.
