Report of the Bioethics Advisory Committee On Personal Information In Biomendical Research

The Bioethics Advisory Committee (BAC) announces the release of a Report entitled: “Personal Information in Biomedical Research”. This Report discusses the ethical issues relating to the use of personal information in biomedical research and makes recommendations on the appropriate use of such information through the provision of proper safeguards.
Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices Released by The Tripartite Alliance for Fair Employment Practices (TAFEP)

The TAFEP has issued the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices that identify fair and progressive HR practices in areas such as job applications, interviews, progression, grievance handling, and so forth. The Guidelines will help employers recruit based on objective criteria and adopt progressive in-employment processes to give employees opportunities for growth and development based on merit. In dealing with grievances, employees should be provided the opportunity to present their case and be treated with respect.
High Court Holds That Settlement At e@dr Centre Not A Court Order

In a landmark decision, the High Court held that the e@dr Centre, under which mediation sessions such as Court Dispute Resolution (CDR) conferences are held, is not a court conferred with jurisdiction to grant orders. As such, there must be further endorsement by a court with such jurisdiction and judicial power, in order to crystallise the recorded terms of the settlement reached at a CDR conference into a consent judgment.

During the Budget speech, it was announced that there will be a 2-year assistance scheme to help locally registered SMEs adjust to rising business costs. Eligible firms will receive cash rebates pegged to their total employer and employee CPF contributions made over two years, between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2009. Details of the Scheme were announced on 30 April 2007.

$3.2 Billion Worth Of Government Contracts For FY 2007

The business community can expect an estimated $3.2 billion worth of Government procurement contracts in Fiscal Year 2007. Of the $3.2 billion, IT contracts account for $730m.
