Singapore Law Society's "The Future of the Legal Profession" Conference
Posted on Wednesday, January 04, 2006 - 12:00 AM
This one day Conference, to be held on 16 February 2005, aims to promote an in-depth discussion and a cross-fertilisation of ideas on a wide range of contemporary issues and developments affecting the legal profession.
Fundamental and sacred principles of the legal profession, including the lawyer’s privileged relationship with clients and self regulation, are under review and scrutiny. Lawyers have to re-think the way they manage their practices in the context of international/cross-border initiatives, technological advances, changing client expectations, business best practices and new business structures. In the United Kingdom and the European Union, developments have occurred in legal professional privilege and Governmental consultations have taken place on the future organisation and regulation of the profession. The impact of these developments has been closely monitored and where possible, key learning points studied for development of the legal profession in Asia and elsewhere.
