Review of the Code of Practice for Info-communications Facilities in Buildings (COPIF)

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) had on 4 March 2005 released a consultation paper to review the COPIF to ensure that the requirements specified remain relevant and accurately reflect the current needs of the industry and consumers.
The proposed changes include:-
(a) making the Code mandatory;
(b) merging of Broadband Coaxial Cable System ("BCS") Facilities with Telecommunications (Non-BCS) Facilities;
(c) changes to Internal Wiring & Cabling Distribution System for Residential properties; and
(d) several other proposals.

Increased Clarity and Efficiency for Building Developers and Owners
The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has today issued a public consultation paper on proposed amendments to the 'Code of Practice for Infocomm Facilities 2000 (Draft COPIF 2005)1. Proposed amendments benefit tenants and residents by ensuring availability of infocomm services in buildings. Greater clarity on the requirements of building developers and owners result in increased business efficiency and savings.
Details of proposed amendments can be found at IDA's website, http://www.ida.gov.sg/ , under the sections "Policy & Regulation", "Papers", "Consultation Papers".
IDA invites the industry and public to provide feedback and comments. The consultation exercise is in line with IDA's on-going efforts to engage the public in its decision-making process and to increase regulatory transparency. All views and comments should be submitted in writing to reach IDA not later than 12 noon, 15 April 2005.

1The Code of Practice for Infocomm Facilities in Buildings (COPIF 2000) was effected on 15 September 2000. It states the detailed requirements for space and facilities that building developers and owners must provide for, in order to enable infocomm service provision in their buildings for occupants.
